Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT)

Regardless of the mode of delivery, sublingual drops vs. subcutaneous injections, immunotherapy works by training the part of your immune system that is responsible for your allergic reactions to no longer react to those allergens.  While the process is slow, it is typically very effective.  A standard course of immunotherapy is approximately 2.5 years; however, patients should feel an improvement in their allergy symptoms and allergy medication needs within the first 9-12 months of starting the therapy.  It is important to complete the entire regimen to achieve lasting benefits from immunotherapy.

We choose to provide sublingual immunotherapy over subcutaneous immunotherapy because it is much more convenient for our patients while still being very effective.  There are several peer-reviewed randomized controlled trials examining the benefits of both SLIT and SCIT, and both have been proven to be effective.
