There are various ways to test patients for inhalant allergy.  One type of testing is called in vitro testing which is performed from a patient's blood sample.  These tests are usually reserved for patients who cannot undergo in vivo testing, which is intradermal or skin prick testing, because skin testing is generally more accurate than blood testing.

We perform intradermal skin testing which, from a patient's perspective, is like having many Tb tests performed.  The test is administered on the patient's upper arms.  We test approximately 40 allergens that cover our local tree, grass, and weed pollens, molds, pet dander and dust mite.  The testing takes about 45 minutes; the results are immediately available.
