Clarifix is a new in-office procedure that’s available as an option to treat patients suffering from chronic post-nasal drip that’s not responsive to maximum medical therapy.

So if you’re taking topical steroids, anti-histamines (Allegra, Zytrec, Claritin), rinsing your nose with saltwater — by using all those medical therapies you’re still suffering from a lot of post-nasal drip, Clarifix is about a ten-minute office procedure that’s covered by insurance that will help decrease post-nasal drip without the use of additional medications.

Clarifix is a device that is used to freeze a nerve in the back of the nose that supplies the glands that create the post-nasal drip.

So, in the back of the nose, here there is a nerve that comes out of this little foramen (passage) on the outside wall of the nose that supplies the glands of the nasal cavity.

The Clarifix device goes right over to that area of the nerve, then, using liquid nitrogen, we freeze that small area of the lateral wall of the nose, and by freezing that nerve, it disrupts it’s ability to supply the signal to the glands of the nose, and thereby decreasing post-nasal drip.
